Work life balance
Our salon hours are amazing! You will get guaranteed weekend nights off and every Sunday off. Our salon closes at 4:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Every UM employee is entitled to accrue up to 40 hours per year of unconditional Paid Time Off. PTO automatically begins to accrue from day 1, for all UM employees.
All stylists are in regular rotation for full weekends off throughout the year. We do this to give staff the best natural schedule and the most opportunity to have an enjoyable life outside of the salon.
We offer fixed or flexible scheduling with guaranteed weekly hours that never get shortened or cut. Typically, there are extra hours that are available for our stylists to pick up every week.
Easily request days off and vacation time with the UM Access App. At Upscale Male, schedules are posted online 6 weeks out in advance, giving all of our staff flexible schedules so they can plan their life best.

Management at UM stays focused on individual situations. We make sure to find the right balance for scheduling that is unique to a stylist’s own availability, childcare and personal situation.
All stylists are given a 30 minute paid meal break every shift worked. At UM, we know our staff need a recharge during their shift and we happily offer a great selection of food and snacks because we genuinely care about our staff and their well being!
Compensation
The industry's highest guaranteed hourly pay with consistently very strong client tips.
No current clientele needed. You will have a steady flow of appointments in your book right away. Our clients trust our hiring process and eagerly work with new stylists.
With our extensive book of clientele and year round strong flow of customers, new stylists are consistently 95% + booked with appointments scheduled for them from day 1!
All of our hair stylists are automatically signed up for a UM Savings Account and begin to earn Bonus Deposits daily from day 1! UM Bonus Deposits are not based on a stylists sales performance or revenue targets. At UM, you are rewarded for organic client building and for growing your own book for the long term.

Every UM stylist is given an opportunity and a choice to participate in and be part of our salons unique approach to creative team collaboration and community involvement. We believe in the immense power of team engagement and maintaining a positive group energy. We create these voluntary opportunities for our staff to grow and learn from each other in a fun and lively environment, while also being generously compensated for their time and contribution to our salon culture. Our stylists can choose to contribute, either by giving back through our local community outreach initiatives or they can participate in attendance with our creative and training team in representing our brand at industry gatherings, educational affiliations, and UM sponsored training events.
